George North has accused the media of making up stories about him following his recent concussion saga.
North was the subject of a number of investigations following an incident in an Aviva Premiership game against the Leicester Tigers, where the Wales winger lost consciousness, yet was allowed to return to the field just minutes later.
The incident resulted in North being stood down by his club for a number of weeks, while a full investigation was carried out. Northampton escaped punishment, but were criticised for their handling of the situation.
North has a history of concussion related injuries, having been stood down in the past. His health and wellbeing has been a in the media spotlight in recent weeks, with the player now accusing the press of making stories up about him.
Following Northampton’s 28-21 win over Castres in the Champions Cup this past weekend, North blamed the media for the storm that ensued following the controversial incident. When asked about his current state of health, he had this to say
“I’m good,” he told BBC Radio Northampton.
When the interviewer probed further, North added:
“Well, you boys have to get paid somehow don’t you? So you boys can make stories up. I’m all right.”
Rugby medical expert Dr Barry O’Driscoll, uncle of former Lions and Ireland great Brian O’Driscoll, has claimed North is risking his health by continuing to play union.
