Wanted man.
Cash rich Montpellier have entered the race to sign Munster and Ireland back-row CJ Stander, as the Lions forward mulls over a new contract offer from the IRFU.
Backed by billionaire Mohed Altrad and coached by Vern Cotter, the French giants have already lured the likes of Aaron Cruden, Louis Picamoles, Nemani Nadolo and Ruan Pienaar to the Top 14.
According to a report on The Irish Independent, the 27-year-old South African-born star is now considered a greater flight risk than club captain Peter O’Mahony, who looks increasingly likely to remain in Ireland.
Reports yesterday revealed that Stander has only been offered a €20,000 increase on his current €260k-a-year deal, with Montpellier in a position to potentially offer close to treble that.
Negotiations are still ongoing, but the chances of Stander leaving have increased massively.
