England international Henry Slade is to miss February’s Six Nations after undergoing surgery on a damaged ankle and broken leg.
Exeter head coach Rob Baxter (via the club’s official website) claims that the 22-year-old will likely be sidelined for about four months, meaning there is absolutely no possibility he will feature.
Baxter detailed just how serious the injury is:
“He has had what all indications suggest was a successful operation. He has had a plate inserted into the lower part of his leg, he had to have some ligament repair and a bit of wire inserted at the lower end of his leg too,” Baxter told exeterchiefs.co.uk.
“It was a pretty major operation but certainly not one we don’t expect him to make a full recovery from.”
