Eddie Jones, has continued his tough straight-talking attitude having threatened four or five players with omission from the squad to Australia, by warning Saracens’ wing Chris Ashton about his behaviour.
Ashton missed the recent Six Nations because of a ban for gouging Ulster’s Luke Marshall in the Champions Cup and he has now attracted Jones’ attention for his part in Bath’s Anthony Watson being banned last week.
The Bath centre was given a two-week suspension for a dangerous tackle on Ashton’s team-mate Alex Goode, as well as for using offensive language to the fourth official afterwards, but the England boss was unhappy with Ashton’s push and some verbal abuse on Watson after the tackle.
“I didn’t like what Ashton did,” said Jones. “I thought it was unsportsmanlike, and that is something he needs to get out of his game.”
Asked if he had spoken to Ashton about it, Jones said:
“Nah, he needs to get selected first. It is not my job to tell him how to behave at Saracens but it will be my job to tell him how to behave here [with England] if he gets in the side.” [Telegraph]
