“The other matter is dead.”
England head coach Eddie Jones refused to be drawn out in today’s press conference regarding the comments he made about Ireland.
Jones was forced to issue an apology yesterday, after footage emerged of him at a sponsor function where he referred to Ireland as the “scummy Irish” after they defeated his England side as last year’s Six Nations.
In the video, Jones said:
“We’ve played 23 Tests and have only lost one Test to the scummy Irish. I’m still dirty about that game. But we will get that back!
“We will get that back, don’t worry, we have them next year at home, we will get ’em back!”
Jones was quizzed on the video following his team announcement, and refused to be drawn on his disparaging remarks about Ireland, simply saying:
“I apologise for the remarks, I sincerely mean that and I really don’t have anything else to say on the matter. I’m happy to answer questions on the game coming up, but the other matter is dead.”
Sky Sports News are reporting that the Rugby Football Union (RFU) will not institute any disciplinary procedures against England head coach Eddie Jones after he apologised for the remarks.
