All three of the assistant coaches remaining from Stuart Lancaster’s regime — Graham Rowntree, Andy Farrell and Mike Catt were sacked by England’s new head coach, Eddie Jones on Friday.
Rowntree will be replaced by former English lock Steve Borthwick who also worked with Jones with Japan. It has now also been revealed that Jones has officially made an offer to Saracens defence coach Paul Gustard to replace Andy Farrell.
As for a replacement for Catt, Jones himself is known to be keen to take charge of the attack coaching of his new side, but he is still understood to be seeking a backs and skills coach.
Jones will also probably seek to employ a scrummaging coach, a role that Rowntree — who has been England’s forwards coach since 2008, during which time he also worked with the British and Irish Lions on tours to South Africa in 2009 and Australia in 2013 — undertook as well as the wider forwards job.
