One of the major talking points in the aftermath of Munster’s win of Harlequins at the Stoop a few weeks go ago, was the hit that James Downey had on Mike Brown. The tackle was immense and almost sent Mike Brown hurdling into the following week. To date the hit has notched over 82,000 hits on YouTube, and is definitely worth watching.
Speaking in Cork on Tuesday, James recalls what was going through his mind when he was making the ferocious tackle ” I think we had identified beforehand that he doesn’t like to kick too much. He ran into my vicinity and was one of those good connections I think, if he had gone the other way I may have missed him completely. It was just one of those things, I caught him well and it was a good feeling”
Munster fans will be glad to hear that Downey has his sights set on Clermont’s centres King and Fofana, and hopes to land more serious tackles on the duo ” I will try up and line up a few, and see what I can do. It is all for the team isn’t it. If it can get the team in front then so be it”
With Munster facing a massive challenge tomorrow, Downey has spoken of how the scenario is one that suits Munster. ” We are up against it but that is the way we like it, we can sure it will be a good battle” He goes on to add that he is relishing the opportunity to play against two of the biggest centres in Europe” You want to play against the best, that is why you play the sport , you want to be playing against the best and seeing where you come out. Hopefully we will come out on top”
Tomorrow at 5pm all eyes in Munster will be on Downey and his team mates, and they will be hoping that with the help of more magic from Downey, and another fantastic display from the squad, will see them carry on their Heineken Cup journey.
