Like a fine wine.
Donncha O’Callaghan and Worcester revealed yesterday that the 38 year-old Irishman had agreed a deal to play on for one more season.
O’Callaghan, who made the move to the Premiership in September 2015 after 17 seasons with Munster, will continue his playing career after an impressive two-year spell with Warriors. The former Lions second-row was recently handed the captaincy armband by new Worcester Director of Rugby Gary Gold, leading the club to a memorable win over Saracens in February.
The Irishman’s passionate approach on and off the field has seen him become a firm favourite amongst the Warriors faithful and he was also named the Supporters Club Player of the Season in 2016.
How has his career lasted so long? Speaking to the Redditch Advertiser, O’Callaghan brilliantly explains:
I think it’s how you look after yourself.
I am a non-drinking Irishman and I think that has helped me.
If you’re willing to put your head between two bums and push that’s all you need in the second row.
It’s a pulling, dragging, position so I am lucky you don’t need all the attributes of an athlete. It does takes longer to recover from games when you get older.
What a legend.
