“Totally inappropriate.”
Ulster and Ireland winger Craig Gilroy has apologised “unreservedly” for the offensive WhatsAapp message he sent that was used as evidence as part of the Belfast Rape Trial.
Gilroy has pointed out that the message was sent privately, and that it was not sent as part of a group chat as many have assumed.
Regardless, he says he accepts “full responsibility” and says his comment was “totally inappropriate.”
Gilroy says the message is not an “accurate reflection” of his beliefs “nor Ulster Rugby’s values. He also says he is “deeply sorry for the hurt my comment has caused.”
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Ulster Rugby and the IRFU said Gilroy would not be available for selection this weekend, when Ulster play at Edinburgh in the PRO14.
“Ulster Rugby and the IRFU confirm that as Craig Gilroy is subject to an internal review, he will not be available for selection this weekend.”
