England international Chris Ashton looks set to leave French giants Toulon and return to the Premiership in a bid to fight for a place in Eddie Jones’ squad at next year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.
rFench media outlet RMC Sport broke the news last night, revealing Ashton has requested an early release from his three-year contract which still has two-years to run on it.
Ashton broke the Top 14 try-scoring record this season, despite playing much of the campaign out of position at fullback.
No word yet on what club Ashton would sign for if released, but you’d imagine he have no shortage of suitors given his incredible strike record. But at the same time Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal will likely drive a hard bargain.
