Why the hell hasn’t this man’s name been mentioned yet?
Peter O’Mahony gave us a lesson in sheer determination, passion and will yesterday. The Munster captain was brought into the starting line-up just minutes before kick-off and by the end of the 80 minutes, had a lot of people wondering why the hell he wasn’t starting in the first place.
O’Mahony has proven time and time again he will give you 110%, and has a unique ability to lead and lift players around him. He’s been the driving force behind Munster’s revival this season and was the driving force behind Ireland’s last night.
What O’Mahony brings to a team not just as a player, but as a person is something so special and unique that not putting him on a plane to New Zealand would be a travesty. What he can offer the touring party has to be looked at by head coach Warren Gatland.
The Cork native also proved once again last night just how damn good he is at the line out. If we told you O’Mahony is probably one of the best back-row jumpers in the world, you’d find it difficult to prove us otherwise.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again… If O’Mahony did not suffer that devastating injury at the Rugby World Cup, he would be Ireland’s captain right now and that’s no insult to Rory Best, who’s done one hell of a job. We’d also go as far as saying that he would be one of the lead contenders for the Lions captaincy right now.
For the love of god, get this man on a plane to New Zealand. Give him the bloody captaincy while you’re at it.
