Brian O’Driscoll has revealed that the hardest tackle he ever got hit with in his career came from England’s Johnny Wilkinson. Widely regarded as one of the greatest playmaker’s the game has ever seen, Wilkinson was notorious for his hard hitting.
The tackle in question came during England’s Grand Slam winning victory over Ireland in 2003 at Landsdowne Road. England dismantled Ireland on that day and went on to lift the Rugby World Cup later that year.
Wilkinson was at the peak of his powers during that game and hit O’Driscoll with a tackle he has previously referred to as ‘like being cut in two.’ The Ireland centre was forced to leave the game following the hit.
“Jonny Wilkinson…I couldn’t walk for two days!” O’Driscoll said.
O’Driscoll was speaking at the Dubai Sevens as one of the official ambassadors. Watch the full video below, where he recalls some of his most memorable moments in rugby.
