Former Ireland and Leinster star Brian O’Driscoll has fired back at comments by Stephen Jones about Johnny Sexton.
The outspoken pundit gave Sexton just a 6/10 rating in the Sunday Times for his performance in the win over England and slated the playmaker for his willingness to go down so easily.
Jones says that Sexton is ‘potentially a great player, but often struggles’ and feels he will be easily targeted by the All Blacks in New Zealand should he line out for the Lions.
O’Driscoll has jumped to Sexton’s defence, stating that the only reason Sexton gets hit so often, is because he has the balls to take the ball to line and create space.
'Potentially a great player'?! He gets hit because he has the liathróidí (balls in Irish) to take the ball to the line creating space. pic.twitter.com/70k1kL5a9h

O’Driscoll also feels that Sexton was no doubt targeted on Saturday.
No but definitely targeted. https://t.co/x6SY4mguJI

The former Ireland and Lions captain also feels that Sexton can’t change his style of play as it would lose his effectiveness. His career will probably be shortened, but BOD reckons he will go out in a blaze of glory.
Possibly the latter but go down in a blaze of glory! His game is what he does currently. Change & lose effectiveness. https://t.co/dcjkkKU5wp
