Sean O’Brien, Iain Henderson, Paddy Jackson and Peter O’Mahony are all missing from the updated Ireland squad to face New Zealand on Saturday.
O’Brien, Henderson and O’Mahony are all “returning to full fitness”, according to the IRFU and miss out on the trip to Chicago for the Soldier Field clash with the All Blacks.
Ulster out-half Paddy Jackson has not travelled for personal reasons.
O’Brien and O’Mahony have both only recently returned from extended lay-offs and will be given more time before they make their long awaited returns to green jersey. Henderson injured his shoulder against Exeter in the Champions Cup and missed out on Friday’s derby loss to Munster.
Uncapped Leinster playmaker, Joey Carbery, who was born in New Zealand, steps in as replacement out-half, and could be in line for a debut in place of Jackson,].
The 27-man squad departed from Dublin Airport this afternoon and is due to land in the early hours of Tuesday morning (Irish time).
