This is insane.
While we were all glued to the Six Nations over the weekend, there were some absolutely mind-boggling scenes in the Top 14, with Biarritz taking on La Rochelle.
In one of the most bizarre things we’ve ever seen happen on a rugby pitch, both teams thought they had won the game with the clock in red, thanks to an extra ball on the pitch, courtesy of a fan in the crowd.
Biarritz trailed by 4 points but had a lineout on the 5-metre line when things got a little crazy. As the hooker threw the ball into the lineout, an extra ball comes launching in and gets caught up among the players.
Francois Da Ros breaks from the back of a maul to score for Biarritz, while La Rochelle’s Tawera Kerr-Barlow boots the spare ball into touch, resulting in scenes of celebration for both teams, who now both think they’ve won the game!
The try wasn’t allowed to stand but Biarritz secured a famous win anyway, scoring a try off the scrum straight after play was resumed. Absolute madness!
