Canada Sevens player Adam Zaruba in heading to the NFL after inking a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Zaruba, who played as a forward for Canada in the World Rugby Sevens series, tried out for the Eagles over the weekend and impressed them enough to earn himself a contract offer on Monday.
Former England Sevens star Alex Gray became the first English rugby union professional to quit the sport to take up American Football when he was offered a place on the NFL’s International Player Pathway programme back in May.
Zaruba last played American football in high school and will play as a tight end for the Eagles.
“It will be a really awesome thing for me as an athlete,” Zaruba said
“The window here is very small.”
Whether or not the Canadian will manage to make the Eagles’ 53-man roster for the new season remains to be seen.
