Andy Farrell set add to Irish coaching ticket ahead of the Rugby World Cup

Just the ticket.

Head coach Andy Farrell has revealed that he is open to adding to his Ireland coaching ticket ahead of the Rugby World Cup in 2027.

The men in green lost to both New Zealand and South Africa in the Autumn Nations, with question marks surrounding the scrum, the line-out, and their overall ill-discipline.

Farrell was speaking after Ireland were drawn in Pool D for the Rugby World Cup, alongside Scotland, Uruguay, and Portugal.

Ireland are yet to progress beyond the quarter-final stages of the World Cup and stated that they are “open-minded” when it comes to adding to their current coaching ticket, which includes the likes of Paul O’Connell, Simon Easterby, and John Fogarty.

“Nothing is locked in. There are all sorts of reviews that we’ve been having over the last couple of weeks, and we’re always open-minded to do the right thing by the squad,” Farrell said when asked about adding to his backroom team.

“I agree that from the autumn it’s certainly a little bit of a work-on.

“Obviously, South Africa are a lot to do with that, and we’ve seen that in other games that they’ve played as well.

“It isn’t just the discipline, it’s how you handle the pressure of the game within itself. It’s something that needs to continue to improve.”

As for their World Cup ambitions, Farrell made it clear that Ireland are aiming to go all the way.

“Well, obviously I back myself and the rest of the coaches and the players and all the staff to go as far as we’d all hope,” he said.

“We’d have the ambition to win a World Cup, otherwise what’s the point?”
