Ali Williams Stripped Of Racing 92 Role Following Cocaine Arrest

Ali Williams has been stripped of his ambassadorial role with Racing 92.

The former All Black has been at the centre of controversy after being arrested on suspicion of possessing cocaine by police in Paris.

Williams was suspended by Racing after he and Australian international James O’Connor were arrested and taken into custody in Paris early on Saturday. O’Connor has also been suspended by his club, and told his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season.

Racing’s joint-coach Laurent Travers said the World Cup winning lock has made an “unforgivable” mistake. Travers today also confirmed Williams, who came out of retirement to join Racing ahead of the 2016-17 season, is no longer an ambassador for the club and said the 35-year-old can have no complaints.

“Of course [Williams] has seen the president. A choice was made. Then, when you’re doing something unforgivable, it’s completely logical to be sentenced,” Travers said.

“So there was a sentence and that’s it. No need to argue about it. Sometimes people make a mistake and he made one. But it’s not because he made a mistake that you can throw him in the media fodder.

“We are human beings, sometimes we do make mistakes, some mistakes are forgivable, some aren’t, and as I’ve told you, this one is unforgivable, so there is a sentence.”
