Absolutely Devastating Injury News For Sean O’Brien

Season over.

Sean O’Brien’s season is over after the Leinster and Ireland back-row was forced to undergo surgery on his shoulder yesterday.

The Lions star has had an absolutely miserable season in terms of injury, playing just 67 minutes of rugby since December. A hip operation led him to miss Ireland’s Grand Slam win, and now a shoulder problem could see him miss out European glory with Leinster.

O’Brien suffered the shoulder problem in his comeback against the Scarlets last month, but returned against Benetton this past weekend only to be hauled off at half-time.

“Sean has been ruled out,” Leo Cullen said yesterday

“He didn’t come through (training) this week. He’s had a procedure done on his shoulder today.

“We’ll find out the full extent (of the recovery period) over the next few days.”

The operation now means he is also a serious doubt for Ireland summer tour of Australia.
