5 Potential Candidates To Become Munster’s New Director Of Rugby

The bad news for Munster fans is Anthony Foley is apparently going to be given another year despite almost two disastrous seasons in charge.

The good news however is apparently a director of rugby will be brought in next season to shake things up and take a lot of responsibility away from Foley including contracts, transfers and media obligations. Speaking on RTE’s Against The Head last night, Donal Lenihan claimed however that the post would not be filled until 2017, perhaps suggesting a Super Rugby coach could be in the running.

Well we’ve got the lowdown on who’s being linked and if there’s a chance of them taking over or if it’s just media speculation. One thing’s for sure- whoever takes the job has a hugely difficulty task in front of them.

Declan Kidney

The former Munster head coach guided the province to their first Heineken Cup in 2006 before taking over at Ireland and winning the Grand Slam.

Verdict: Definitely in the running, a strong candidate.

Conor O’Shea

Has already announced he will be leaving Harlequins at the end of the season. Highly sought after coach, could have the job if he wanted it.

Verdict: We’re sure Munster and their fans would love him to take the job, but we reckon that Italy job is already sown up.

Eddie O’Sullivan

Might not be the biggest fan favourite but a proven coach at International test level. Could do a good job at Munster.

Verdict: Definitely in the running.

Michael Bradley

Former Connacht and Edinburgh man has been linked with this role as recently as last month. Once again proven coach with experience.

Verdict: Our favourite for the role. Don’t bet against it.

Todd Blackadder

We had to throw in a Super 15 coach. The Crusaders coach has announced he will be leaving at the end of the season but has no plans. Has previous experience with Edinburgh and Scotland.

Verdict: Doubtful
