Rugby World have reported on a three-season long investigation into the frequency of injuries position by position.
The study was taken from the Top 14 across three seasons, from 2012/13 to 2014/15. The investigation was commissioned by the LNR and the French Rugby Federation. For an injury to be considered the player must have been forced to leave the game with a total of 2,028 injuries logged.
The study revealed that hookers are most affected with the front row accounted for 26% of all injuries overall. Hookers recorded more blood, neck and knee injuries than players in any other position.
Concussions in rugby has been a hugely topical discussion in recent times with the study reported an average of two concussions per weekend. Outhalves were found out to be the most susceptible to a concussion with a staggering 24 concussions across the seasons. Ireland outhalf Johnny Sexton suffered a number of these during his time at Racing while the study was being carried out. Hookers were the next most susceptible to concussion with 20 recorded in the report.
Outhalves were also most prone to muscular injuries, with loosehead props suffering the highest amount of shoulder problems. The full results are below:
