Loophole.
Munster Rugby are currently in the market for not only a head coach to replace Graham Rowntree but also now a forwards coach to replace Andi Kyriacou following news of his immediate departure on Friday.
Rowntree left the province ahead of the international break by ‘mutual agreement’ in a shock announcement that took the entire rugby world by surprise.
Several weeks have passed since the reveal but still no sign of white smoke with several names linked to the role including attack coach Mike Prendergast who appears to be the bookies’ favourite for the top job at the province.
Another man linked with a role at the province is former coach Felix Jones, who is currently serving a notice period with the RFU after a falling out with England.
The sticking point, however, appeared to be that one-year notice period but according to The Irish Examiner, there may be a loophole.
“The Irish Examiner has learned, however, that the Irishman’s contract prohibits him from joining a fellow Tier One nation within that period but does not stop him joining a club. Munster are understood to have not made an approach to the RFU for Jones but there may be fewer barriers to doing so than was initially imagined.”
An interesting one to keep an eye on.
