Peter O’Mahony makes huge announcement on his future ahead of URC semi-final

The end is near.

Peter O’Mahony has made a huge announcement on his future ahead of this huge weekend’s URC semi-final clash with Glasgow Warriors at Thomond Park.

Munster will be looking to keep their incredible run of form going, with 10 wins from their last 10 games, with a home final against either the Bulls or Leinster up for grabs.

O’Mahony recently signed a new one-year deal with the province after several months of negotiating and feels the talks could have gone a bit smoother.

“Look it, if it was done 12 weeks earlier it would have been a lot easier for everyone,” O’Mahony said.

“But it wasn’t and it panned out the way it did. That’s business as well.

“That’s the way things go. That’s part and parcel of the job.

“To be honest, I’ve always been very lucky with the way my contract has been over the years.“I think this is the first time it has been drawn out a bit.

“I wouldn’t like to be doing it every time.

“But I’m at the stage of my career when I can separate those two things.”

As for his future, O’Mahony has confirmed next season will be his last with Munster, and while he added “never say never” in terms of playing abroad, it will likely be his last season in rugby, period.

“This is my last contract playing professional rugby anywhere, well, not anywhere but this is my last one and it means I can really enjoy it now,” O’Mahony added.

“I can plan and have last games, you know, last games at Christmas, and at Thomond Park.

“I certainly have no interest in one of these long goodbyes but I can tick things off in my head as I go on next season.

“But hopefully there’s 10, 12 days left in this one yet.”
