Ireland’s incredible unbeaten run in the Six Nations finally came to an end over the weekend following defeat to England in Twickenham.
The men in green looked off the pace for large parts of the game with England putting in arguably their best performance so far under head coach Steve Borthwick.
Andy Farrell’s side led with less than two minutes remaining on the clock before England regained possession and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat thanks to the boot of replacement Marcus Smith who scored the winning drop goal with the clock in the red.
No doubt Ireland will be hurting after that one but Farrell has sent out a stark reminder with Ireland still top of the Six Nations and in control of where the championship ends up with Scotland at home on the final day.
“Anti-climax? How many times have we won the Six Nations,” Farrell told reporters.
“Everyone would LOVE to be in our position, we’ve got to make sure we are loving that challenge as well.”
But Farrell is aware that the Scots will be hurting themselves following their loss to Italy and is ready for the challenge they will bring.
“I have absolutely no doubt that they will be 100% on song,” Farrell added.
“Paddy’s weekend again, a chance to win a Six Nations, it doesn’t get… well, it could of been a little better.
“But these things, the Grand Slams are unbelievably hard to come by. Six Nations are hard enough, as anyone would vouch for.
“It’s good, isn’t it? Yeah. It’s about getting to the last week as we said at the start and we’re here, so making sure that we understand what’s it going to take to recover properly and analyse it properly.
“The Scots as well at the same time (lost to Italy), so it’s a proper Test match week.”
