Ireland made it three from three at this year’s Rugby World Cup with an historic win over defending champions South Africa in Pool B last night.

The men in green struggled to deal with South Africa’s physicality in the opening stages but found their feet as the game went on, scoring the opening try through Mack Hansen, with the boots of Johnny Sexton and Jack Crowley sealing a 13-8 win in Paris.

It was a game worthy of a final, with the fans in attendance playing a huge role, as the top two ranked teams in the world went head-to-head in a Test match for the ages.

Emotions were high throughout and carried through beyond the final whistle, with try-scorer Mack Hansen letting his emotions get the better of him once again, just like in the Six Nations.

“It was pretty much like the Grand Slam on steroids out there,” Hansen said.

“It was crazy. It said that there were 80,000, it seemed like there were fuckin… oh pardon, pardon – again, damn!

“It seemed like there were 800,000… I swore, sorry!”

Hansen went on to bring us more laughs when he poked fun at Johnny Sexton after he was asked about almost running into the dead-ball zone for his try.

“Yeah, looking at it… it was a lot closer to comfort than I would have liked,” Hansen added

“But I was just trying to make the kick easy for Johnny.

“He’s getting a bit old now, can’t make the same distance he used to, so I thought I’d bring it around a bit more and make his life easier.

“I knew what I was doing, obviously.”
