Scuffle.
Things got a little heated in the TOP 14 last night, to say the least, as Clermont Auvergne took on Ronan O’Gara’s La Rochelle.
It all started when the ball went out for touch, seemingly hitting La Rochelle boss O’Gara in the head as he stood in the technical area. As the Irishman tried to move out of the way though, things got a little nasty…
Clermont’s Benjamin Urdapilleta loses it when he realises O’Gara is in his way, and assaults him by pushing him not once, but twice.
O’Gara is visibly pissed off by the whole situation but does well to keep his cool. Speaking after the match, Urdapilleta backed up his actions as he felt that O’Gara was intentionally blocking him.
“With the adrenaline, I sometimes have a few excesses but he is smart, I think he did it on purpose to prevent me from receiving the ball,” Urdapilleta told Canal+.
O’Gara himself was also pretty bullish over the whole incident.
“I think he wanted to play quickly, but I was in my zone,” O’Gara told L’Equipe.
“He pushed me twice, no? It’s bizarre. “I’m not an angel either, but at the same time there is respect, and tonight I think we crossed the line.”
“It’s just disappointing that he didn’t even have the class to apologise after the match or something like that.”
