Wales international scrumhalf Rhys Webb has tested positive for a growth hormone following a test carried out by the French Anti-Doping Agency in July.
The 34-year-old, who has been capped 40 times by Wales, is currently plying his trade with PRO D2 side Biarritz Olympique and bagged himself a try in the club’s first match of the season, a 35-18 win over Colomiers.
But Webb was left out for the defeat to Brive yesterday and it has now emerged he has tested positive for a banned substance. He has now been provisionally suspended and faces a potential four-year suspension.
“We have been notified of this information. The club, which is not involved, is awaiting deliberations and the investigation,” President of Biarritz Jean-Baptiste Aldige said.
Biarritz added that anything he tested positive for would have been supplied by the Welsh Rugby Union.
