Former All Blacks captain Richie McCaw has just been named World Rugby player of the Decade at the World Rugby Awards this evening.
McCaw twice captained to Rugby World Cup glory in 2011 and in 2015 before retiring from the sport after an incredible 148 Tests for his country.
The openside was nominated alongside Thierry Dusautoir (FRA), Dan Carter (NZL), Kieran Read (NZL), Brodie Retallick (NZL), Beauden Barrett (NZL), Johnny Sexton (IRE), Pieter-Steph du Toit (RSA).
Elsewhere. former Ireland number Jamie Heaslip has been awarded the Try of the Decade award for his effort against Italy in 2016.
The number eight got in on the of an incredible team try from Ireland and was delighted with the win.
