History makers.
Argentina stunned the rugby world this morning when they defeated the All Blacks for the first time in 30 attempts following a stunning Rugby Championship opener for the Pumas.
Outhalf Nicolas Sanchez scored all of Argentina’s points with a try, six penalties and a conversion, as the Pumas went on to secure a famous 25-15 victory in their first test for more than a year.
But it was an incredible squad effort from the Argentinians who were filled out emotional come the final whistle.
Speaking after the game, captain Pablo Matera said they just wanted to show their people that hard work pays off.
“It’s a big game for Argentina rugby today,” said Matera.
‘There’s a lot of guys who have pulled this jersey on before us and this allowed us to get here. We’re used to (adversity), it’s always tough for Argentina. We just wanted to show our people that if you work hard, you get your rewards.”
How hard they worked and how much they were up against it can be seen in an incredible video they posted before the game that shows just how difficult it was for them to prepare for a return to rugby while on lockdown.
Players can be seen training for over 100 days in the confines of an apartment, scrummaging at home with their Dad, practising passing in the garage, throwing lineouts onto the roof – it’s simply incredible.
Check it out below. The power of will. Incredible.
This is how Argentina have been forced to train over the last few months.
