Rugby’s greatest championship.
Six Nations officials last week confirmed details of rescheduled fixtures for the postponed 2020 championship with Ireland set to kick things off with a visit of Italy to Dublin in their penultimate game on November 24.
The other four nations have just one game left to play with Super Saturday set to take place on November 31 this year. First up, Wales host Scotland, before Italy take on England and finally Ireland will travel to France in the late kick-off.
But the question is… who’s gonna emerge as champions come the final whistle in Paris?
Here’s how the table stands heading into those games.
Ireland might be fourth at the moment but no disrespect to Italy – we expect the men in green to get maximum points against the Azzuri leaving them top on 14 points heading into the final round of fixtures.
According to sportsbettingdime.com, France had been heavy favourites to win the 2020 tournament after their 3-0 start, sitting at -145 (roughly 2/3) but England took over as odds-on favourites when France fell to Scotland.
And that will likely still be the case come November 31 even if Ireland go into the last round a point clear with England hosting Italy at home. A (likely) bonus-point for Eddie Jones’ will mean France must do the same against Ireland to be in with a chance of winning on points difference.
Ireland meanwhile will need a win on the road against Les Blues and hope that they can get ahead of England on points difference.
But let’s not forget – form is gone completely out the window with the season paused for such a long period. We have no idea what England will show up, what shape Ireland will be in, how France will be after the break etc.
Personally – I think it’s England’s to lose but never rule out France absolutely collapsing and handing the championship to Ireland. It wouldn’t be the first time an Irish side secured a Six Nations championship with a famous win over the men in blue.
Roll on November. It’s going to be an absolute cracker.
