Flustered.
Springboks captain Siya Kolisi believes they had the World Cup in Japan won last year before a ball was even kicked – because of how flustered England captain Owen Farrell was before the game.
England were overwhelming favourites heading into the game following their demolition of New Zealand in the semi-final – a team that had previously defeated the Boks in the pools stage.
But when it really mattered England fail to show up and were comprehensively beaten 32-12 by Kolisi’s side in the end.
Speaking to former Springboks Jean de Villiers and Schalk Burger on the Use It or Lose It Show, Kolisi said Farrell was on another planet for the coin toss with the pressure clearly getting to him.
“You know when you have that feeling, ‘there’s no way they’re going to beat us today’?” Kolisi said.
“Even with the coin toss, when I saw Owen Farrell, he didn’t know which side he was at, which side was warming up, what team is he, A or B.
Already I could see [he was flustered]. And they came late to the stadium.
“We were so confident from the first scrum, the guys were really hungry. I know people say Kyle [Sinckler] got injured earlier but the way we’d been scrumming everybody else, I don’t think it would have made a difference.”
Body language, character, confidence 👀
Having spent numerous months with the @Springboks, Swys de Bruin knows a thing or two about Siya Kolisi.
