A ‘second Six Nations’ is being planned as a possible way to mitigate the huge financial impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on the global game.
Reports in the Daily Mail this week have claimed that contingency plans are being put in place for the home nations of the likes of New Zealand, Australia and South Africa cannot travel for the autumn Tests.
Wales are currently due to play New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Fiji in November, with Ireland currently scheduled to face South Africa, Australia and Japan.
England meanwhile are supposed to be taking on New Zealand, Argentina, Tonga and Australia, with Scotland slated to face Argentina, Japan and New Zealand.
The Super Rugby season still needs to be completed and with the Rugby Championship slated for August – the November tours might have to be scrapped so the southern hemisphere season can be finished.
The 2020 Six Nations looks like it could be completed in October with the ‘second’ championship commencing in November to try and raise some much-needed funds for the unions.
