Scotland’s Australian-born centre Sam Johnson has raised tensions even further ahead of this weekend’s game against England by claiming ‘no-one likes’ them.
Eddie Jones fired the first shots this week when he claimed that Scotland were a “niggly” side while accusing them of “goading” his players ahead of the infamous tunnel scuffle in Murrayfield two years ago.
“Scotland are a niggly side. Our historical record against Scotland is interesting – over 80% wins in England but only 50% at Murrayfield,” Jones said.
“The dressing-room scene two years ago, they tried to goad a couple of our players.”
But Johnson has taken things up a notch by claiming no-one likes England, no matter what sport it is. And while Scotland “respect” England, they almost “hate” them at the same time.
“What I will say is that no-one likes England,” Johnson told the Glasgow Times.
“Whether it’s cricket, rugby or any sport, you want to win. You fully respect England because of how good they are, but I don’t think anyone likes them when you’re growing up.
“We have the greatest respect for England because they are so good, you almost hate them for it.”
