There was no sign of any ‘busgate’ issues for Ireland under new boss Andy Farrell today with his side arriving 30 minutes earlier than usual for their Six Nations opener with Scotland.

Under Schmidt, Ireland would normally arrive at the Aviva Stadium an hour and a half before kick-off but Farrell is setting his stall out early with the team arriving a full two hours before kick-off against the Scots.

Interestingly the team has also arrived in tracksuits, not suits like they usually would under Schmidt. A sign that perhaps the old strict regime that the New Zealander became [in]famous for during his tenure is gone.

They might seem like very minute details but perhaps might have some much deeper meaning going forward.

Speaking to Virgin Media in the last few minutes Farrell was asked about what style of play we should expect this afternoon and had the following to say:

“I hope it’s the style that’s the right style for the game as it’s unfolding,” Farrell said.

“The game takes its own course and we’ll see if we’re able to adapt in the right manner.

“The essential parts of rugby are still the essential parts and we need to make sure we are really good at those aspects as well.”
