Wanted man.
Munster Rugby’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages of this year’s European Champions Cup all but ended yesterday evening when they were defeated by Racing 92 in Paris.
The Irish province looked like they were going to pull off a famous win for much of the game but three Racing tries in the last ten minutes sent them home with absolutely nothing, leaving their season in tatters.
But Munster fans can take comfort in the fact that the province is already looking ahead to improve the squad ahead of next season. Major deals for Springboks RG Snyman and Damian de Allende are set to be confirmed in the coming weeks and they could be joined at the province by an exciting young fullback.
The Rugby Paper is reporting that 23-year-old Saracens prodigy Matt Gallagher is set to leave the Premiership club as they seek to slash their wage bill. The fullback is the son of All Black great John Gallagher, who won the 1987 World Cup with New Zealand.
It is said that discussions between the two clubs are at an “advanced stage” with Gallagher eligible to play for Ireland as his mother is from Limerick. Another potentially excellent signing for the southern province.
