Sale Sharks Boss Responds To Eddie Jones Wanting To Play Ben Curry In A Bizarre Position

Hybrid.

Sales Sharks boss Steve Diamond has confirmed England boss Eddie Jones has approached him in the past about the possibility of flanker Ben Curry playing as an international scrumhalf.

Reports emerged yesterday that Jones will call up Ben, twin brother of Tom Curry, for this year’s Six Nations with plans to deploy him in a hybrid flanker/scrumhalf role.

Diamond though isn’t exactly convinced, referencing Jones’ comments about playing winger Jack Nowell at openside last year.

“Eddie Jones approached me last year and said he believed Ben Curry could make it as an international No9,” Diamond told RugbyPass

“I didn’t take it too seriously because he does like to find people to do different roles and last year there was the talk about Jack Nowell (Exeter wing) playing in the back row.

“I don’t know if Eddie is intending to do that with Ben but I would suggest that his best position is going to be openside flanker. However, if the England gurus, who are far more experienced than me, think like that then let them pick him at scrumhalf and we will take the money off the RFU!”

What do you think? Could you see Ben Curry playing at nine for England?
