Half-forward?

England boss Eddie Jones looks set to call up Tom Curry’s twin brother Ben for this year’s Six Nations – but has plans to potentially play him in a bizarre and rather unorthodox position.

Ben is used to partnering his brother Tom in Sale’s back-row with both players seemingly comfortable at six or seven, but according to the Daily Mail – Jones reckons Ben can do a job at scrumhalf for England.

Jones famously made headlines last year when he suggested that winger Jack Nowell could potentially be deployed in England’s back-row as a seven, but the roles are being reversed this time with the Australian contemplating turning a forward into a back this time.

Sources have indicated to Sportsmail that there may be a genuine intention within the England set-up to explore the option of deploying him in a hybrid role for the championship.

The move may allow England to go into Tests without a recognised scrum-half on the bench, adopting the 6-2, backs/forwards split made famous by South Africa that more and more teams are using this season.

A bizarre and bold move if true. But if it works he’ll be heralded as a genius! Although something tells us it won’t.
