England and Lions lock George Kruis looks set to join Liam Williams in leaving Saracens as the fallout of their salary cap breach continues.

Williams looks set to leave Saracens before the end of the season, having already agreed on a deal to return to Scarlets as the Premiership champions look to get their books in order before June so they don’t end up breaching the salary cap again.

Kruis meanwhile looks set to leave at the end of the current campaign, with RugbyPass reporting that he will take up a lucrative contract offer in Japan.

If the 29-year-old leaves, it will also effectively end his England career, with head coach Eddie Jones still opting to only select players that ply their trade in the Gallagher Premiership.

Kruis has been a key figure for Jones since his arrival in 2015 and toured with the British and Irish Lions in 2017. He played a key role for England at the Rugby World Cup in Japan, coming off the bench against South Africa in the final.

It’s been reported this week that Sarries are £600k over the cap at the moment and have until June to get their house in order. In order to do this, they will need to cut their current annual wage bill by approximately £1.44m.

Calum Clark and Michael Rhodes are also reportedly set to be let go, along with Argentinian prop Juan Figallo, according to Sportsmail.
