England Boss Eddie Jones Following World Cup Final Defeat – “This Team Is Finished”

Done.

Despite an impressive run to the final, England boss Eddie Jones says his World Cup team “is finished” following their defeat to South Africa on Saturday.

England reached the final following a hugely impressive run which saw them beat the likes of Argentina and France in the pool stages before going on to defeat Australia and New Zealand in the knockout stages.

But in the end, they were well beaten by the Springboks in the final, with Rassie Erasmus’ side dominating England at scrum time, in a 32-12 win. And now Jones says come the Six Nations, England will have a completely new team.

“I tell you what happens to teams – they evolve,” Jones told the Guardian.

“Some guys will lose desire, some guys will lose fitness, some guys will get injuries and there’ll be young guys come through. So this team is finished now. There will be a new team made. We’ll make a new team for the Six Nations and that new team for the Six Nations will be the basis of going to the next World Cup.”

Jones did, however, praise his players for their impressive showing in Japan.

“I’m so proud of the players, the way they’ve prepared, the way they’ve worked,” Jones said

“They’re great ambassadors for the sport and great ambassadors for England and I’m disappointed there’s such a negative attitude about our performance.

“We’ve just taken a team that couldn’t get out of the pools and just got beaten in the final and there’s all this negativity about their performance.”
