England have climbed to number one in the World Rugby Rankings following their impressive 19-7 World Cup semi-final win over New Zealand on Saturday.

The defeat for the back-to-back former world champions sees them drop to third place – equalling their lowest ever position since the rankings were first introduced back in October 2003.

South Africa are up to second place thanks to their narrow 19-16 semi-final win over Wales with the top two ranked teams in the world now set to face off in the Rugby World Cup final next weekend.

Wales, meanwhile, fell one place to fourth following that defeat with Ireland remaining in fifth place.
