Double whammy.
Ireland have been hit hard in the latest World Rugby Rankings following their shock 19-12 World Cup defeat at hands of tournament hosts Japan on Saturday.
Points are worth double at the World Cup with Ireland losing nearly four points as a result of the defeat and Japan gaining the same amount. It means Ireland drop down to fourth after surrendering top spot last week following New Zealand’s win over South Africa.
Japan meanwhile are up one place to eighth in the world – their highest position since the rankings were introduced in October 2003.
Wales’ win over Australia moves them back up to second with Australia remaining in sixth. Scotland are down to ninth, while Argentina have move back into the top ten with their win over Tonga.
