Red card?
Australia fought back against a resilient Fiji side this morning to claim a 39-21 win in their opening Rugby World Cup game, but the result was not without controversy.
With just over 25 minutes gone Fiji led the game 11-7, largely thanks to openside Peceli Yato, who scored their first try and ran absolute riot in the opening quarter. Australia simply couldn’t handle him.
But his game was cut short as a result of a high, no-arms tackle by Wallabies winger Reece Hodge that a lot of people think should have been a red card. In the ITV studio after the game, former England captain Lawrence Dallaglio reckons Australia should have been down to 14 men.
“It’s very clear. You look at where the contact is made.” Dallaglio said
