A number of leading Tier one nations have reportedly vetoed controversial new proposals regarding how red cards are officiated – that planned to be rolled out at this month’s Rugby World Cup in Japan.

World Rugby reportedly held a conference call with leading nations, where plans to dilute red cards were seriously discussed by the governing body. The proposal would see teams allowed to replace a player who has been red-carded 15 minutes later – not too dissimilar to the black card in GAA.

But the Press Association reports leading figures in Wales, England, Ireland and Scotland have downright rejected the radical proposal – and we for one are delighted.

A new law amendment regarding the TMO and red cards has already been put in place for the World Cup, but this proposal is a step too far for us, and we’d imagine pretty much everyone else.
