In the midst of all the madness yesterday, with Ireland announcing their 31-man Rugby World Cup squad six days early – the latest official World Rugby Rankings were released and we forgot all about it.
Following their much-needed win over Wales on Saturday, the men in green have once again climbed back up the rankings, moving up to second in the world, having dropped to fourth following their record defeat to England.
Wales meanwhile didn’t last very long at the top, with their defeat costing them not only their 11-match unbeaten home record – but their title as the number one ranked team in the world too.
Reigning world champions New Zealand are now back at the summit, but things could change again this weekend with Ireland and Wales set to do battle again. Who will be the number one ranked team in the world heading into the World Cup? We’ll find out this weekend.
