In trouble.
Ireland boss Joe Schmidt is set to hand over his 31-man World Cup squad to World Rugby this afternoon before officially announcing it on Sunday, the day after their final warm-up game against Wales at the Aviva Stadium.
And multiple reports suggest Devin Toner is set to be the most high-profile omission, with Schmidt set to go with Jean Kleyn, Tadhg Beirne, James Ryan and Iain Henderson as his four second-rows.
But is Toner’s potential omission strictly a selection decision or is there more to it? We reckon there could very well be more to it, with footage emerging of a dangerous clear-out by Toner in the win over Wales at the Principality.
It could very well be a case where Schmidt and his team are anticipating a ban for the Leinster lock, leaving the door open for Jean Kleyn to take his place. World Rugby are set to announce any citings later today so watch this space.
