World champions New Zealand will climb back to the top of the World Rugby Rankings on Monday afternoon following Wales’ 22-17 defeat to Ireland at the Principality this afternoon.
Warren Gatland’s men were the number one ranked team in the world coming into the game, but will fall down to fourth with the updated rankings are released after the weekend.
Ireland could have claimed top spot with a win margin of 15 points or more but will have to settle with reclaiming second spot thanks to a late surge from the Welsh.
The two sides meet again next week at the Aviva in what promised to be a fiery affair before they fly out to Japan for the World Cup.
