Former England international Mike Catt will join Ireland as attack coach after the Rugby World Cup in Japan later this year, according to a report by Brendan Fanning in The Irish Independent.

Andy Farrell will take over as head coach when Joe Schmidt steps down after rugby’s showpiece event in Japan later this year. Simon Easterby and Richie Murphy will be staying on with Farrell with John Fogarty already announced as Greg Feek’s replacement.

With Farrell set to continue looking after Ireland’s defence, an attack coach was always the target for Ireland with Joe Schmidt usually taking the lead in this area.

Catt has plenty of coaching experience having worked as attack coach for London Irish, before working alongside Farrell with England under Stuart Lancaster. Catt is currently part of Conor O’Shea’s backroom team with Italy.
