Au revoir.
France centre Mathieu Bastareaud has retired from international rugby following his omission from their Rugby World Cup training squad.
The 30-year-old was one of a number of high profile absentees when Jacques Brunel named his squad yesterday alongside the likes of Morgan Parra and Teddy Thomas.
Bastareaud fully expected to be named in Les Blues’ squad, signing a MLR deal with Rugby United New York that does not begin until after the tournament ends in Japan.
“The blue page has turned,” Bastareaud wrote on Twitter
“It has not always been an easy road but wearing the jersey, representing my country, my family, has been my biggest pride,”
“I am happy to have been able to make this childhood dream come true.”
