Wales boss Warren Gatland has been forced into an emergency flight home back to New Zealand after his son Bryn suffered an horrific injury while playing Super Rugby.
The promising outhalf, who played against Gatland’s Lions back in 2017, suffered a devastating foot injury while playing with the Highlanders in their win over the Sunwolves over the weekend.
The youngster was jackaling for the ball when his foot became trapped and got caught beneath a pile of bodies, leaving him in a precarious positions.
He snapped a number of bones and tore ligaments as players piled in and twisted his foot out of shape. Bryn has since seen a specialist who will now attempt to repair the damage with Gatland flying in to be with his son.
He’s now looking at around six or seven months out.
