Ireland and Leinster flanker Dan Leavy was all smiles today as he went under the knife following a serious knee injury picked up in Leinster’s Champions Cup quarter-final win over Ulster last month.

Leavy suffered a “complex knee injury” that has ended his season and his hopes of representing Ireland at the Rugby World Cup in Japan later this year, and went under the knife today as he looks to bounce back from the horrific injury.

Speaking after Leinster’s semi-final win over Toulouse, teammate James Ryan said Leavy was in good spirits ahead of the operation

“Dan’s grand, he’s not somebody that tends to dwell on things too much.” Ryan told RTE Sport.

“He’s got an operation coming up soon and if there’s anybody who’s going to come back from an injury like that it’s him.”

And now in an update on social media, Leavy has given the thumbs up, with the operation presumably going as well as it possibly could have.

“First step on the road to recovery done and dusted.” Leavy wrote.

“No doubt a long journey ahead but looking forward to conquering this challenge.”
